Gillett Honored in the Top 100 High Schools in the Nation Congratulations to Danyell Franti and her students in her Personal Finance classes. This is an impressive achievement and as Danyell stated, “As a low income school in rural Wisconsin, I take a lot of pride in teaching our kids. It is so necessary for them.” Below is the press release from W!SE: Working in Support of Education (W!se) is pleased to announce that 74 high schools in its national network have earned the distinction of being named a Blue Star School for their students’ outstanding performance on the 2019-2020 W!se Financial Literacy Certification Test. This national standardized Test is administered to students after a course or unit on personal finance. Students who pass the Test become Certified Financially LiterateTM and earn a W!se CFLTM, demonstrating that they have developed sound financial knowledge and skills. To earn the coveted Blue Star School award, a school must achieve an 80% passing rate on the Financial Literacy Certification Test and have either a majority of students on a given grade level take the Test or have the students who took it achieve an average score of 85% or higher. The Test is administered as part of W!se’s award-winning Financial Literacy Certification program. Schools enrolled in the program teach a course or unit on personal finance using instructional resources from W!se, including a curriculum outline aligned to national and state standards, and then administer the Test. Since its introduction, the program has become integral to personal finance instruction in thousands of classrooms across the United States and is offered in 49 states. Phyllis Frankfort Perillo, Founder and CEO of W!se said, “Earning the Blue Star School designation is an extraordinary achievement. This award recognizes and validates the hard work of personal finance educators who graduate their students with the knowledge and skills necessary for being financially literate.” View the complete list of 2019-2020 Blue Star Schools (PDF): https://www.wise-ny.org/.../Wse-2019-2020-Blue-Star... According to Danyell, our students averaged over a 40% increase of their scores from the pretest to the national test. She also believes that the skills taught in this class are life-long lessons that they need. Congratulations to Danyell and our Gillett High School students on this prestigious award. We are so proud of their accomplishments! |
